Our Plantout days are an integral part of what Te Ara Kākāriki does. We arrange for volunteers, groups, and workplace colleagues to come to one of our sites and plant native seedlings. There’s plenty of time to chat throughout the day, meet new people, learn more about native plants and wildlife, and how we ensure the plants flourish once we’ve finished.
We provide everything you’ll need for planting, like spades, clean gloves, plus drinking water, morning and afternoon tea, and each site has a toilet available.

Each spring we hold a series of Plantout events across the Selwyn District which are perfect for individuals and groups of friends and family wanting to volunteer. Registration is easy via our online forms which you can find on this website, or through or social media.
Our planting events begin with an ecologist giving a planting demonstration, as well as some background on the site and our trust. With everything you’ll need provided, it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy making a difference to our local environment while planting alongside like-minded people.
Our annual spring events are also a fantastic and easy way for groups to volunteer together. Every year we are joined by groups such as the Student Volunteer Army, local secondary school and tertiary students, clubs, church groups, and a range of community organisations. We provide comprehensive instructions, all the equipment you need, as well as morning and afternoon tea, and for our two main Plantouts return bus transport from Christchurch.
To register your group simply contact us, and we can work with you to find the best event for your numbers. We may also be able to arrange transport from a convenient bus stop in Christchurch or along the route for our two main events. Get in touch to start planning today.
Te Ara Kākāriki Greenway Canterbury Trust is an incorporated Charitable Trust with the goal of increasing biodiversity in Canterbury.
Our mission is to create a ‘Greenway’ – a corridor of native biodiversity Greendots between the Waimakiriri and Rakaia rivers, linking the mountains to the sea Ki uta ki tai.
We’ll send you regular updates on planting days and other useful news (we will not share your details with third parties)
