Part time positions available in 2024

Te Ara Kākāriki Greenway Canterbury Trust are looking to fill the following roles starting in April 2024. The two roles will be year-round with fluctuation in hours. There is the possibility that these roles could be combined.

Role 1: Kid’s Discovery Plantout Coordinator

We are looking for someone to run our educational planting programme, working with Selwyn schools and Enviroschools to plan and host events. Hours are flexible apart from events but approximately 28hrs a month apart from August – October when it increases to 65hrs.

A typical Kids Discovery Plantout Day involves a planting day at a site near the school where the students particpate in a range of activities related to the ecosystem such as aquatic and invertebrate investigations, cultural uses of native plant species and sessions on exotic predators.

The ideal applicant will have a basic understanding of local biodiversity and be keen to share their knowledge with students. They will be great communicators, liaising with schools, partners and activity leaders for planning and be able to lead a range of activities related to our native ecosystems.

Role 2: Greendot Plantout Coordinator

In this role you will be working alongside another plantout coordinator, running and organising two weekend volunteer plantout events in Spring, and monitoring planting sites twice a year. Hours are flexible apart from events but approximately 30hrs a month increasing up to 50 hours from August – October.

You will also be responsible for writing updates for local newspapers, social media and the website, writing a funding application as well as minute taking for our meetings.

The ideal applicant will have an interest in native biodiversity, be a great writer and communicator, enjoy working with volunteers and organising events.

Other information

Both coordinator roles require the successful applicant to hold a clean driver’s licence and have a vehicle suitable for transporting equipment to and from events, sometimes towing a trailer. Travel is fully reimbursed. You will need your own computer and a cell phone allowance will be provided.

Apart from events and six weekly trustee meetings (Tues or Weds evenings), the hours worked will be flexible and need to be completed from home as the trust does not have an office base.
